~ Birds & Feathers ~

PEACOCK

KEYNOTE …. Resurrection and Wise Vision (Watchfulness)
CYCLE OF POWER …. Spring and Autumn

The peacock is a bird which has stirred much lore and myth in every society.  This bird, with its beautiful plumage, fascinates all who encounter it.  As with many birds, the male has the brighter feathers and is more ostentatious.  The peahen is no less significant in its own right.  It is a protective and powerful bird.

Native to Asia and the Congo Region of Africa, Peacock (Blue Peafowl) is a relative of the Pheasants. (The difference between the two is their plumage–red and gold for Pheasants, green and blue for Peafowls - although there are actually several coloured varieties of Peafowl, but the green/blue bird is the most recognised.) As India’s National Bird, Peacock ( Male Blue Peafowl) is known the world over for his bright train of feathers. Because of this, Peacock has been introduced to other places, starting in Mesopotamia about 4,000 years ago.

Displaying his train is part of Peacock’s courtship with the Peahens. The longer his train, the more impressed will Peahen be. Unlike her male counterpart, Peahen is chestnut brown and bronze green but has the same crest as Peacock.

Blue Peafowl are Birds of habit, eating and sleeping in the same area all their lives. Peacock even displays his train in the same chosen place. During the day, Blue Peafowl sit in thickets. At dusk, they return to the same watering hole before roosting for the night. As they go to their tree roosts, Blue Peafowl screech to each other.

Known for their screeching, Blue Peafowl hoot loud alarm calls when they see a Tiger. During the monsoon season in India, people hear loud meowing calls from Blue Peafowl. Indians claim that Blue Peafowl are predicting the next rainstorm with their calls.

Blue Peafowl teaches the love of home. They emerge from their area of the dense forest in early dawn to feed at their regular spot and find water. Then they go about feeding on Insects or Mice. At dusk, they return home. To Blue Peafowl, there is something comforting about being a homebody. (Just remember to have a little adventure in your life once in a while.)

Of all birds, the peacock most resembles the traditional descriptions of the phoenix.  The phoenix is the legendary bird of resurrection that is sacrificed in the fires of life and then rises from the flames out of its own ashes..  The peacock, as a reflection of the phoenix, has touched many societies.  In Chinese mythology the plumage is a blending of five colours that have a sweet harmony of sound.

Because of its many eyes, it has been associated with wisdom and vision - heightened watchfulness.  It has also been associated with immortality, partly due to its similar appearance to depictions of the phoenix.

The Healing Power of PEACOCK Medicine

      Important Peacock Teaching: Wholeness

Copyright: Beyond the Rainbow (Constance Barrett Sohodski)
"Wholeness implies an integration of one's many aspects, without an undue focus on what appears to be missing. Peacock's laughter and the brilliant eyes on its feathers remind us to focus on what is, and to appreciate what we have. This bird, like Swan, also reminds us that true beauty comes from within, for the peahen, though more drab in appearance than the peacock, has just as commanding a presence." .

Peacock's Teachings Include:

Copyright: "Power Animal Meditations", Nicki Scully.
"Peacock is quite playful - an hedonist in fact - being devoted to pleasure and luxury, but this doesn't bother him. There is no self-criticism or denial here. He encompasses, in a warm, open-handed way, the ability to relish and envelop life. He would laugh at our judgments, for he enjoys himself without being kept from Spirit."

ANIMAL OR BIRD MEDICINE can assist in healing body, mind and spirit. It can help in bringing personal power, strength and understanding. When you call upon the power of an animal, you are asking to be drawn into complete harmony with the strength of that creature's essence.

Living In The Moment
Birds fascinate people. Many people set out feeders to attract Birds to their Gardens. Others travel distances to spot a particular bird. People watch Birds fly, perch in trees, and sing to each other. What is it about Birds that draw people to them? People tell you they love Birds for the joy they bring.

Birds teach living in the moment. A flash of brightly coloured feathers, then they are gone. The sight of an Eagle soaring in the sky makes people pause and watch. Crows amuse people by their antics. A lonely call of the Loon fills people with longing. Constantly in motion, Birds teach people to live in the moment.

Not all Birds in a particular family are the same. For example, Penguins are known for their even tempered dispositions, however Rockhopper Penguin is a bad-tempered bully. Not only that, but he hops instead of waddling like the other Penguins. Meanwhile, Emperor Penguin is the model of cooperation for all Animals.

Feathers available at Nature's Wonderland

The Magick is within You! So why do we need all these Ritual Tools? For Focus! These are the tools that focus the mind, especially while you are learning the art, and are also what you use to focus your power.

There are rituals and spells you can do with nothing but your mind and they will be just as effective but there are times, especially if you practice High Magick, that tools are required. They also represent the elements and can be charged as such to release the power of an element into your spell-working.

Your ritual tools are sacred and should be treated with reverence and respect. Allow only those whose energy you want affecting your magick to pick up your wand or other tool.

One of the most valuable and powerful of our Ritual Tools are our Healing Wands.  The ATLANTEAN POWER ROD contains the very essence of ancient advanced science. The basic rod is a hollow copper tube. At one end is a quartz crystal, which is about ¾" to 1" in diameter. It is about 1 ½" to 3" long. The outer covering or insulation is leather, wrapped in a flat spiral. Some healing wands have quartz crystal or other crystals on both ends and others have just one crystal with a copper end cap at the other end.  In the area of health and healing, all diseases become curable. The use of these wands employing crystal energy is actually a simple process that allows the balance of the body to be restored. The affected organism heals itself.  Various feathers enhance these wands, being attached to either end in a decorative, but powerful manner.  We also offer other items that are also enhanced with the Magick of Feathers.

These leather-wrapped copper wands are enhanced with various feathers
- Emu, Guinea Fowl, Maned Duck, Peacock, Egyptian Geese, Cape Barren Geese, Magpie Geese, Galah, Raven, Rosella, Cockatoo, varying Bantams & other interesting coloured feathers from which you may choose ...
(See a few of the feathers available in the photos below.
All feathers are lovingly collected from SerpentineMoon's own birds on their small paradise, *Shambhala*, as well as some contributed by some very special eBayers from their own birds - THANKS!!)
... and then further enhanced with leather thonging and crystals.

The buttons below will lead you through to the Medicine of the Birds and the most understood meanings of the different feathers that we use.

We will be adding to this Collection over time - it is still not complete, so we appreciate your patience.

Mitakuye Oyasin

The Meaning of "Mitakuye Oyasin"
This is a Lakota expression that means "we are all related" (mih-TAHK-e-yeh oh-YAH-sin). It is often spoken as a closing for prayer or as a parting comment. It is to remind us of our role and responsibility in this world.
You may also see colours blue (for sky and Grandfather, the Great Spirit) and green (for ground and Earth Mother). These remind us of our relationship to all that is. We are brothers and sisters to all living things; everything we see and experience is sacred and worthy of our respect. Most importantly, it reminds us that we have been created by Grandfather. Just by being, we have importance and significance.

Many Tools are available from either the MAGICKAL RITUAL Tools Department or the
MAGICKAL & CRYSTAL WANDS  Department of our eBay Store.

Please email us with any queries you may have, or any requests for special feathers.
