ANIMAL
OR BIRD MEDICINE can assist in healing body, mind and spirit. It can help in bringing personal power, strength and understanding. When you call upon the power of an animal, you are asking to be drawn into complete harmony with the strength of that creature's essence.

Types
of Feathers Used
As with all birds, there are quite a few
different types of feathers on each Peacock. We are using the India Blue
species. These feathers are gathered naturally, when the feathers are moulted
each year, from our 4 year old peafowl pair, Prince and Lakshmi.
A male peacock in full plumage is surely among the most beautiful and spectacular pheasants in the world.
There are but two naturally occurring peacock species, the Indian peafowl Pavo cristatus from India, often called Blue peafowl, and the Green peafowl
Pavo muticus which lives farther east in Burma, Thailand, Indo China, Malaya and Java. It is curiously absent from Sumatra and Borneo. The latter peafowl has three subspecies:
Spicifer in Western Burma, a duller, bluer race; Imperator in Eastern Burma, Thailand and Indo China, much brighter
and greener: and Muticus in Java, which is still more brilliant. There are many mutations and breeds that have been developed and are commonly available from peacock breeders.
The India Blue Peacock is commonly kept and bred in captivity by people around the world. They are hearty and easy to keep, even in cold districts. The Green species is not bred as often as the India Blue and is therefore more expensive.
The tail of the green peacock is exceptionally beautiful! The Green is more susceptible to cold and needs to receive adequate protection from the cold. Peafowl can be quite sociable and often display their feathers right in front of you in the springtime. Many also live and breed in parks and gardens. The male peacock in the spring not only displays his gorgeous tail feathers, but also utters its famous call which is always a delight to hear!
Peacocks don't develop their long trains until they are 3 years old and they moult the train
annually, each summer. The train is not actually the peacock's tail. The train itself is composed of 100—150 upper tail coverts, which are supported by 20
rectrices (true tail feathers).
Peacock feathers are very special: there are many
different kinds & qualities of feathers on just one bird besides the
most obvious "eye" feathers: striped or mottled wing feathers, blue and green neck feathers,
angora - fluffy feathers, long grey true tail feathers,
iridescence and mini peacock image in the eye feathers, and gorgeous colours on other wing and neck feathers, the tiny crown feathers (corona) on the head, - just to
mention a few.
The Large Striped Peacock Wing Feather

These feathers are really special: they are
striped - mottled - and
chequered in beautiful patterns and are 12 -15" long. There are only a few of these big ones
per peacock.
The Peacock Wing Feather

Peacock wing feathers are about 14" long, and 1.5" -
2" wide. Most are generally black or dark blue, sometimes, in very healthy, well-fed
peafowl there is sapphire iridescence or mottling on the
edges of the feathers. There are also some lovely
tan coloured feathers.
Peacock Sword Feathers

These beautiful fringed feathers are the fern-like
feathers that edge the peacock's fan. They have no eyes, or
occasionally small oval eyes, and a luminescent green/blue chenille-like fringe on one side.
Peacock Butterfly Feathers

These are the longest of the feathers in the train
and show around the rim when the tail is displayed
in the fan. They are not very prolific.
Tiny Eyes

There are only a few of these small peacock eye feathers,
which range from 3.5" to 6", although some of
the longer feathers, up to 36", have small eyes and
can be trimmed shorter.
Miniature Green Shoulder
Feathers - Peacock Plumage Feathers

These beautiful miniature feathers are quite
difficult to gather as they either don't moult
very frequently, or else they get lost in the dust
because of their tiny size - they are only about
1/2" across and about 1" long at the
most. They are located at the
base of the peacock's train near the shoulders. They are cute and
unique.
Peacock Crown (Corona) Feathers

These are of sizes varying from 1" to 3"
These are the Extremely Rare Peacock Crown (Corona)
Feathers. We hardly ever come across any.

WINGED ONES
Living In The Moment
Birds fascinate people. Many people set out feeders to attract Birds to their Gardens. Others travel distances to spot a particular bird. People watch Birds fly, perch in trees, and sing to each other. What is it about Birds that draw people to them? People tell you they love Birds for the joy they bring.
Birds teach living in the moment. A flash of brightly coloured feathers, then they are gone. The sight of an
Eagle soaring in the sky makes people pause and watch. Crows amuse people by their antics. A lonely call of the Loon fills people with longing. Constantly in motion, Birds teach people to live in the moment.
Not all Birds in a particular family are the same. For example, Penguins are known for their even tempered dispositions, however Rockhopper Penguin is a bad-tempered bully. Not only that, but
he hops instead of waddling like the other Penguins. Meanwhile, Emperor Penguin is the model of cooperation for all Animals.

The Magick is within You! So why do we need all these Ritual Tools?
For Focus! These are the tools that focus the mind, especially while you are learning the art, and are also what you use to focus your power.
There are rituals and spells you can do with nothing but your mind and they will be
just as effective but there are times, especially if you practice High Magick, that tools are required. They also represent the elements and can be charged as such to release the power of an element into your spell-working.
Your ritual tools are sacred and should be treated with reverence and respect. Allow only those whose energy you want affecting your magick to pick up your
wand or other tool. One
of the most valuable and powerful of our Ritual Tools are our Healing
Wands. The ATLANTEAN POWER ROD contains the very essence of ancient advanced science. The basic rod is a hollow copper tube. At one end is a quartz crystal, which is about ¾" to 1" in diameter. It is about 1 ½" to 3" long. The outer covering or insulation is leather, wrapped in a flat spiral. Some healing wands have quartz crystal or other crystals on both ends and others have just one crystal with a copper end cap at the other end.
In the area of health and healing, all diseases become curable. The use of these wands employing crystal energy is actually a simple process that allows the balance of the body to be restored. The affected organism heals itself.
Various feathers enhance these wands, being attached to either end in a
decorative, but powerful manner. We also offer other items that are also
enhanced with the Magick of Feathers. These leather-wrapped copper wands are enhanced with various feathers
- Emu, Guinea Fowl, Maned Duck, Peacock, Egyptian Geese, Cape Barren Geese, Magpie Geese, Galah, Raven, Rosella, Cockatoo, varying Bantams & other interesting coloured feathers from which you may choose ...
(See a few of the feathers available in the photos below.
All feathers are lovingly collected from SerpentineMoon's own birds on their small paradise, *Shambhala*, as well as some contributed by some very special eBayers from their own birds - THANKS!!)
... and then further enhanced with leather thonging and crystals. The buttons below will lead you through
to the Medicine of the Birds and the most understood meanings of the different
feathers that we use.
We
will be adding to this Collection over time - it
is still not complete, so we appreciate your
patience.
